7th largest pool of engineers: where is research?

Research studies these days are gaining an unprecedented focus and attention in the world. But in Pakistan when I ask my lecturers about the working departments for engineering researches and developments, with a blush on their faces they answer me the names of 3 or 4 departments only.

Any successful nation is first known by its literacy rate, its level of education, its interest and experiences in research sector. Country like Pakistan which owns more than 100 engineering universities including Azad and Jammu Kashmir has a very low rate in research sector. At the same time Pakistan is known as the 7th largest pool of scientists and engineers which means world is accepting that we encompass engineers in such figure so where are they all?? Why the research work is only supported by 3 or 4 departments in the country?

The reason is we lost our confidence and determination which allow us to create something new. More likely the standards of our merits are such stumpy that they could be conquered easily whose effect might be seen afterwards when our engineers fly out to find a job at larger salaries and high reimbursements still they even don’t get success in it. Because when the question comes behind the table regarding our researches we just bewail, quake our hands and depart.

Talking to one of my senior lecturer who was really engrossed in research of electronics engineering I was amazed when he said, we don’t have any encouragement in financial perspectives by our departments as well as government. He also said some of the teachers and PHD’s are doing researches on their own and they are highly appreciated by their institutes such as NUST, UET and other universities which are run by forces or they are rich private institutes.

Pakistan’s minister for science and technology is Mr. Changez Khan Jamali who has not been ever seen such efficient on media or any other platform to encourage the students toward this important field of work and that is really a thoughtful point as in 21st century where the world is in succession for science and technology, in Pakistan the engineering students don’t even know the name of their minister for science and technology.

In a discussion with the students of a leading engineering institute of Karachi it was acknowledged that many of the apparatus of mechanical engineering and others which are used to elucidate and guide the students are not made by our own researches, most of them are USAid funded.

Due to this ashamed fact, we’ve not even rationalized the standards of laboratories in our government engineering universities. The students have started losing their interest from this exceptional field of work.

Encouragement of students and their counseling by veteran teachers and researchers in this sector could play an enormous role for extracting new methods, new ways and highly developed world of engineering which has already been touched by other nations.

But if we will continue abrading that research work is a difficult task because one has to get abortive in it again and again. So don’t worry about that because Thomas Edison says and I quote:

“I will not say I failed 1000 times, I will say that I discovered 1000 ways that can cause failure”

our generation is confined to only getting a job after completing studies. we can only focus on research if we are encouraged not only for getting a job but discovering new horizons of research.

pakistan can only make bombs….kill people…bloody fithy, hungry, beggar terrorist nation….u want to do research in a place which depends on american aid??lol……where its not possible to lay tracks and run train…..where every day blasts occur…lol….fuck u then!!

rest alone research..there is such a big communication gap between the classroom & the public & private companies which can be bridged at a lower cost.
