How Can You Use Wireless Internet Routers with Satellite Internet?

Satellite Internet can bring you high speed uninterrupted connectivity of Internet but what will take care of the Internet connectivity needs of the multiple devices that you have in your home? Should you be using multiple Satellite Internet connection for every one of them? It is best to use wireless routers along with the satellite Internet connection in case all the devices in your household are Wi-Fi enabled. Here is how you can get a wireless router to work with your satellite Internet connection:

Step 1 – Connect the Wireless Router and the Modem

At first you will need to connect your satellite Internet modem with the wireless router. You will need an Ethernet patch cable for this purpose. In all probability your wireless router comes with one in the packaging. In case it didn’t, you can get one without much hassle from the nearest technical store. It will not be too expensive.

Also, check whether your Internet service provider has any rules mandating you to use one of their wireless routers for this purpose. In that case, all you will need to do is give them a call and they will install the router at your home.

Step 2 – Turn on the Router

Once the router and the modem are connected, you will need to configure it in order for it to be able to recognize the signal from the modem. In most cases, the router will auto configure it once it is turned on. In case you are using a router that was configured for some other connection previously, press and hold the reset button on the body of the router to have it start afresh.

Step 3 – Connect the Router and Computer

During the initial setup of the router, you will need to connect it to a computer that has another Ethernet patch cable. After the initial setup, you can discard the patch cable and use Wi-Fi alone for all connectivity purposes.

Step 4 – Setting Up the Router

Set your network card of the computer to accept DHCP that will allow your computer to auto configure itself to the IP of the satellite Internet connection. Once done, go to the browser to setup the connection and the router. Type in the IP address of the router and navigate to the page to set it up according to your preferences.

With these settings in place you can start enjoying your satellite Internet connectivity wirelessly to all other Wi-Fi enabled devices.
