Independence speeches – two different postures

The day when Pakistan witnessed autonomy back in 1947 was a day of great celebration. It was a day of achievement; it was the day of a new beginning, and a birth of a nation. Independence and freedom is one of the biggest blessings of Allah and there is no one who can realize and understand its real meaning and significance other than those who are kept away from this blessing or those who only feel freedom in their dreams. 14th August has impressive value in the history of Pakistan because Muslims of subcontinent got freedom from the double yoke of British rule and Hindu domination. On this date Pakistan appeared as an independent Muslim state on the map of the world.

Independence Day is the greatest time when head of the state give message to the general public of the country. On the eve of Independence Day when I switched on the television for news that how nation is celebrating 65th Independence Day all over the country. I witnessed two speeches first by President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and other by Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani respectively. On 65th Independence Day of Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari addressed the nation that Pakistan came into being as a modern democratic country this is a historic milestone that democratically elected government is about to complete its mandated term in office. Pakistan is facing dangers from various forces and we need to defend parliament from conspiracy. He also said that parliament is the voice of people and their voice cannot be silenced. He asked the nation to promise for promotion of democracy in country. Furthermore he said militancy is the threat for Pakistan and we will work for strength, betterment and prosperity of society. He also announced the local government system in tribal areas.

Whereas, the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashfaq Kayani delivered speech on Independence Day of Pakistan at the Kakul Military Academy. He said Islam and Pakistan is connected with each other. We should not forget Pakistan came into being on Islamic principles and any power cannot depart Islam from Pakistan. He also said that everyone is responsible for mistakes made in past we cannot get anything just on crying, it is necessary to learn from past mistakes. He also said that if anyone considers himself as most genius and his opinion as a final decision is extremist and it is real terrorism. He said that the hardest task for military is to fight with its own people and army use this as a last option. He also acknowledged that we are very well aware of corruption, mismanagement and other problems. He further said that the biggest challenges are national security, safety and unity and we will give strong Pakistan to coming generation.  Furthermore, he asked the people of Pakistan that we must promise today to make Pakistan a Progressive Islamic Welfare state – Insha’Allah.

I personally believe that today our nation is standing at a threshold this is a time for introspection, a time to take well thought out measures, and to organize well for the future. The real strength of a nation is evaluated not by the challenges it faces, but by its responses. Our actions today, our decisions today, will mode our tomorrow. There are many important issues on which we must focus; corruption is a cancer affecting our nation’s political, economic, cultural and social life. Let each citizen of the country promise to fight social evils there are laws against them but we need to ensure compliance and create awareness.

“As long as we have hope, we have direction,

The energy to move, and the map to move by,

We have a hundred alternatives, a thousand paths and infinity of dreams,

Hopeful, we are halfway to where we want to go,

Hopeless, we are lost forever”

May Allah fill our heart with love, honesty, sincerity, loyalty, and devotion for Pakistan – A’ameen. With these words, I wish all Fellow Citizens peace, prosperity and progress.

Long live Pakistan …
