This is being witnessed in the history of Paksitani Politics that Political parties to survive in the system enter into Power Politics. Despite the people’s discontent, Political Parties give up the vision and remain in Power while people suffer. In this regard if we look at the political career of MQM, we notice that it was General Parvez Musharaf who brought MQM into main stream Politics and later Mr. Asif Ali Zardari pushed MQM into Power Politics. Initially some people believed that it was a need of time to support a democratic Government after a decade rule of dictator. But later on that decision turned out worse. In current scenario when there is no opposition in Sindh, People are suffering in worst conditions and there is no political party that stands with them.
There was a time when a dictator empowered MQM in the urban areas of Sindh which actually turned out productive due to the local government system introduced by General Pervez Musharaf. At the end of dictator’s era, MQM jumped into the boat of Mr. Zardari who is considered to be the father of Power politics. And now where MQM stands definitely the people don’t. Day by day MQM is loosing people’s support in Karachi Yet what we see is a massive gathering in MQM rallies, the question comes to my mind. Why is that? I happened to talk to few who were supposedly gathered to support Mr. President in reality were told that they are supporting democratic system of Government and some didn’t really know why they are in the rally while there were many who were forced to attend. And I realized how easy it is to play with words and gather people for some thing which they can’t even think of.
For those who are not aware of power politics, let me make it clear in simple words. One has to remain in power no matter if the people support is with you or not. This is what we see today, when people have been suffering the worst conditions in the history of Pakistan and PPP Government and its allies are in Power. Not loosing any single chance to screw the Country. Every institution has collapsed due to bad governance and corruption yet MQM is a part of Government. Though we do see the drama when MQM decides to break the coalition but they negotiate party interests every time. It is to be noticed that Party interest is more important than national interest. Couple of months ago MQM successfully negotiated with PPP Government to get 1600 quota in Sindh Police. This is surly a success for a Party but the reason behind poor law and order situation in karachi is because of highly politicized police department. One can anticipate now that the Law and Order is going to get worse in future.
In a recent news development when Mr. Gilani finally sent home by the Supreme Court, MQM got another chance to negotiate with the Government before the nomination of next PM. And this time there is a possibility that Mr. President will finally accept a long awaited demand of MQM to capture Chief Minister Post in Sindh. But the condition will be, if PPP wins the next election and status quo remains stable.
