He will wake up with the sparrows that are chirping on the trees welcoming a new day, a new morning. But for him it will be the same old morning where he has to go out in search of work to find food for his large family where he is the only bread earner. He offers his prayer before anyone else and rides his bicycle towards the city in search of the work.
He is not sure if he would return with food for his family at the end of the day. He is not sure if he will be able to bring a doll for his 3 years old daughter that had cried for it an evening earlier. He goes and goes thinking about his life and his destiny but is thankful to God for whatever he has. On his way he thinks of how he would earn bread today; probably he can offer his painting skills to paint houses or maybe he can help in lifting bricking for a home that would be building somewhere. One way or another, he has to go back to his family of seven with something to eat.
He is strong and muscular but in this world you need skills, not muscles to earn. There would be thousands like him who would wake exactly as early as he does and who would be thinking exactly the same. He thinks what makes him different? Why would a customer hire him and not someone else? Is it a matter of luck or does it require something else to be hired for a day? Earning bread is difficult. He thinks how many more would be out there living a life just like me.
There are millions of labours in Pakistan but there are millions who are not even employed. Some labours have permanent jobs and they are certain of their earning while there are some who have to earn their bread every day through different means. But what about those who are ‘the unemployed’. They wish they would have a job, probably they wish they would work even on the Labour Day had they been given a chance for a job. All those who are employed are lucky and should thank God because there are people who would just do anything just to get a single job, to earn bread and butter for their family. If there can be a Labour day, why can’t there be an unemployment day, for the latter need more attention compared to the first.
