As a dozens of private television channels have emerged and quite a few are still in the pipeline, a tussle among these channels has started to bag top rating in order to earn more and more revenue.

Unfortunately, these channels firstly resorted to breaking news to approach top rating that is still underway as the channels keep airing breaking news after few minutes although the news are usual and not very excusive. The second way to approach top rating is very critical and is condemnable because in this way, popular TV anchors of various programs have been assigned to interfere in people’s personal lives by raiding different places and exposing their private activities.

No doubt, the aim of these types of programs or intentions of the hosts and anchors are not malicious as their real purpose is to expose and discourage immoral activities but it is a great pity that their way of stemming and exposing people is totally wrong.

Recently a female anchor of a local TV channel not only presented the same kind of program but also telecasted it live. She raided various places where couples were making dates. The anchor exposed them by questioning about their relationship.

It is elusive that in the programs some of the matured-looking couples were asked to show their ‘nikahnamas’ (marriage contracts), although they swear that they are husbands and wives. Is it logical or possible that a couple should keep their marriage contact all the time with them? Can’t a husband and a wife visit to any place for entertainment?

Anyway, the aim or intention of the anchor was perhaps positive, as she wanted to stop or make the people realize that they are doing wrong whereas youngsters were especially focussed, as their parents did not know what their offspring was doing.

The deplorable thing of the program was that it was aired live. At least, the show should have been aired after editing and the faces of the girls, who were with their boyfriends, should have been censored. We know that the girls and the boys were wrong and their parents did not know of their deeds but exposing their faces would surely destroy their lives as many of their relatives and other people would have watched them on the program.

Some victims of the program have approached court against the anchor. As a result, the management of that particular channel had to fire the anchor along with the whole team that presented the show.

Afterwards, the female anchor’s immoral images were posted on facebook in which she was shown not following accepted standards of sexual behaviour.

I think these types of social issues must be highlighted but the modus operandi should not be harming and these issues should be stemmed through the programs.

The management of TV channels should also evolve some strategies to air these sorts of programs keeping in the view there would not be disastrous effects on anyone’s life.
