Twitter paid a great tribute to Imam Hussein A.S during the first 10 days of Muharram. Many Shiite users of Twitter were active like a famous blogger and an activist from Parachinar Riaz Ali Toori (@RiazToori) and a blogger and a businessman from Karachi Ali Raza Abidi (@abidifactor) were included. The constant sharing of poetry and elegies for Imam Hussain A.S by Meer Taqi Meer and Josh sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali khan and Noor Jahan were on top. But tweets from non-Shiite users especially from the users of sub-continent were viewable and appreciated. Those tweets were pointing out how leading personalities can play the role to unite a nation.
Faisal Subzwari (@faisalsubzwari), the deputy parliamentary leader of MQM in Sindh Assembly paid his tribute by poetry that “Sawal e bay’at e shamsheer per jawaz bohat/Magar jawab wohi mo’ataber Hussain ka hai”.
Sharmila Farooqui (@sharmilafaruqi) from PPP and advisor to Chief Minister Sindh sent her Salam to Imam Hussain A.S tweeting “Salaam Ya Hussain”. Another tweet that she re-tweeted said “We had Yazeed in every house if Hussain A.S wouldn’t have sacrificed himself in Karbala”. Faizan Lakhnai (@faizanlakhani) a famous sports reporter for a private TV channel tweeted about the memory of Imam Hussain by saying “Hussain and Karbala happened centuries ago but the hearts never overcome the pain”.
Khuwaja Izhar ul Hassan (@Izharulhassan) the MQM member of Sindh provincial Assembly tweeted a line of elegy while monitoring mourners’ procession in his constituency PS 99 that “the grandson of holy prophet Muhammad peace be upon him could not even got a shroud”. Hussain Haqqani (@hussainhaqqani) the former ambassador to USA tweeted poetry for Karbala and Imam Hussain that “Har aik jabr ke khilaaf, khair ke mahaz per/ Jo mustaqil bapa rahay woh ma’arkah hai Karbala” and “Hava-e-Kufa-e-na mehrbaaN ko kya maaloom/ Keh loag khaima-e-sabr-o-raza mein zinda hain”.
Although his wife and member of National Assembly Farah Naz Ispahani (@fispahani) was sharing videos of some famous elegies sung by Kajjan Begum since many days. The unofficial account of President Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari (Pres_Zadari) which always shares the press releases of president shared his message on the day of Ashura which was to the people that “follow in the footsteps of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and adopt his values to eradicate all kinds of ignorance from the country. We have to forget our trivial differences and adopt the teachings of Islam and promote peace, security and brotherhood.”
Rana Safavi (@iamrana); a famous moderator of tag “#shair” and a tweeterati from India was constantly sharing the elegies of famous Indian poets specially Hindus which is giving another message of peace and harmony that how the sacrifice of Imam Hussain A.S has seen by the non-Muslims and he has proven himself to be the leader of all humanity not just for one sect or group.
There were thousands of tweets coming under the tag of #YaHussain from around the world in different languages which showing that how the Ashura of Imam Hussain A.S had been observed in different countries.
In the end I would share the words of the famous, Dr. K. Sheldrake on Imam Hussain:
“Hussain marched with his little company not to glory, not to power or wealth, but to a supreme sacrifice and every member of that gallant band, male and female, knew that the foes were implacable, were not only ready to fight but to kill. Denied even water for the children, they remained parched under a burning sun, amid scorching sands yet no one faltered for a moment and bravely faced the greatest odds without flinching.”
